Well, that’s odd. Evidently the autopsy on Diamond Turner, the 21-year-old woman found half-naked and with head trauma in a trash container on 73rd & Kenwood on March 3rd, has not allowed the Medical Examiner to “rule on her cause and manner of death pending further investigation.”
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess the manner of death was homicide, but she was found during the almost full week of no shooting deaths in Chicago (the first such event in five years). Maybe if the precise cause of death cannot be determined they don’t actually have to count her as one of this year’s homicide victims, even though it’s next to impossible that she died naturally, accidentally, or by suicide? (Not that reading Second City Cop has made me paranoid about administrative fun & games with Chicago crime statistics or anything).
73rd & Kenwood is just over a mile from my office, btw. If it’s not a homicide, then I guess nobody looks for a killer?
Update: This death has now been ruled a homicide.
